Points of interest:
Grotta of Seiano: a wonderful glimpse located between the Gaiola and the bay of Trentaremi, where Publio Vedio Pollio built a theatre, a nymph and a spa complex. The remains of some roman domus can be noticed in Marechiaro, along the beach, or in Calata Ponticello, going up the village, where there are also a Ionic column and a brick niche. On the cliff, however, going to the Gaiola you can admire what remains of the "House of the Spirits" also called "Villarosa." Further along the coast, to the west, you can see the perimeter of "Virgil's School" where it was believed that the "Vate" practiced magical arts.
Rione Terra Pozzuoli: Nothing better than an Alberto Angela’s expression could describe this area: "There is a neighborhood where chapters in the long history of
Pozzuoli overlapped like pages of a book: the Rione Terra". In fact, it is the only place
that was involved in all the historical developments: from the early Greek and Roman settlement to modern times.
The Flavian Amphitheatre: is one of two existing Roman amphitheatre in Pozzuoli and dates from the second half of the first century A.D. Some texts report it had been built under Vespasian and his inauguration probably happened under Tito. According to some scholars, the presence of masonry built with the technique of opus reticulatum, suggests to its realization under Nerone, then removed with a damnatio memoriae process.
The Solfatara of Pozzuoli: is one of forty volcanoes of Campi Flegrei and it is located about three kilometers from the center of the city of Pozzuoli. It is an ancient volcanic crater still active but in quiescent state that for nearly two thousand years retains activity of sulfur dioxide fumaroles, boiling mud jets and high soil temperature. Other similar activities are also found in other parts of the world and they are indicated with the name of solfataras precisely for the similarity with that Puteolan. The Solfatara is now a magma pressure outlet present under the Campi Flegrei, through which it can maintain a constant pressure of subterranean gases.
