Points of interest:
Piazza del Plebiscito: Located in the historic center, between the seafront and via Toledo, it is considered one of the greatest cities of Italy. For that, it is often used for open-air concerts. The Piazza del Plebiscito was for centuries an irregular area, where popular festivals were held around the so-called party machines. Since the seventeenth century was gradually "regularized", even with reference to the construction of the new Royal Palace, by Domenico Fontana. Since the mid-eighteenth century, more and more radical interventions have been implemented by architects already involved in the construction of the facing Palazzo Reale.
Castel dell'Ovo: is the oldest castle of the city of Naples and is one of the elements that most stand out in the famous view of the Gulf. It is located between the districts of San Ferdinando and Chiaia, opposite the Mergellina area. Because of several events that have partially destroyed the original Norman appearance and through eventual reconstruction works that took place during the
Angevin and Aragonese period, the architectural style of the castle changed dramatically.
The Virgilian Park: It was built at the turn of the twenties and thirties on disposal of the High Commissioner for the Province of Naples and opened in 1931 as Victory Park or Beauty. It was later called the Memorial Park until, thanks to the initiative of Guido Della Valle, it assumed the name of Virgiliano in honour of the roman poet.
Saint Elmo Castle: : a medieval castle that nowadays used as a museum, located on the hill of Vomero. It stands in the place where there was, in the tenth century, a church dedicated to St. Erasmus, hence Eramo, Ermo and then Elmo. This imposing building sets partly from the yellow Neapolitan tuff rock derives from a watching Norman tower called Belforte. Due to its strategic importance, the castle has always been a coveted possession.
Certosa of San Martino: In 1325, on top of the hill, Charles, Duke of Calabria, eldest son of Robert of Anjou, built the monastery. Located next to the castle of Belforte, today, remain very few elements, with recognizable some openings with arches in Catalan style, located in the former refectory, probably used as a serving hatch, came to light in a recent restauration.
